Manually Change Online Status (Away, Do Not Disturb, Available)
In most contexts, a member's thumbnail shows a small square in the lower right corner that's either "green" to indicate they're online or brown to indicate "offline". Perhaps this could be made more useful by allowing it to indicate a few additional states:
connected but busy (or away from the browser or device)
connected but please do not disturb (don't expect responses to messages or comments)
connected via mobile device (so cut me a break!)
When offline, the system would select the "offline" indicator for that user's thumbnail. When "online", however, perhaps a profile setting could be added to determine which state (and therefore which color) the system uses for that user's thumbnail:
green - online (default)
yellow - online but busy
red - online but please do not disturb
black - offline
(Black is suggested rather than the current brown color to address an issue with color-blind users.)
It would be useful if a user could select the "offline" state as their default "online" indicator. This would effectively allow a user to connect and interact with the site "invisibly", for example, if they wanted to navigate the site without having to deal with turning away requests to chat, for example.
Another indication is suggested for mobile device users. People on mobile devices can typically respond to posts less rapidly than users with full keyboards and browsers. It would be useful if a user could indicate that they are limited in this way. Perhaps a "mobile on/off" profile setting could be added that would modify the "online" indicator in some fashion, for example, showing it as a triangle rather than a square.
One might think that the system could determine the user's "mobile" state automatically based on whether they are using the mobile version of the site or the regular one. This is slightly complicated, because a user may be actively logged in from more than one device, not all of which are mobile. Allowing the user to manually select the "mobile" state might be a reasonable way around this.
I understand there is a way to be invisible when viewing other member profiles but I'd like a way to appear as offline when you are really online so you can't be bothered by people that stalk your page and wait for you to get online
Would be nice if members could log on without others knowing that you're logged on. Especially if you just want to check to see if you have messages, but not in a mood to talk to anyone.
Could we get a 'status change' widget somewhere? Every now and then one might want to at least set one's self 'away' because, for example, you might be going somewhere you won't be able to respond to people. Invisible mode isn't really necessary, I don't think, but an Away toggle would not hurt the product.
I would like an option I can select on my profile to NOT SHOW when I was last online. My partner doesnt like me chatting to my friends on here, so I need to be able to hide this when she logs on to check all the time.
You should allow paid members to be anonymous when on this site . . . if they choose. In other words, say I'm having a conversation with someone one night and I'm ready to move on. I say, "Well I've got an early day. Going to sleep now!" Then they see by my green square that I'm still actively online 2 hours later and it's obvious I blew them off. Why can't I decide who sees that I'm online?
Please add a on-site global option to set the current status (for example one of: online, online (want talk), away, busy, DND, offline, etc., including a possibility to set a own status message
I wonder if you can differentiate between those who are actually "online" and those on "mobile" with some kind of notation in each profile. For example, the category "Nearby and Online" could be divided by "Nearby and Online" and "Nearby and Mobile."
I (and pretty much everyone here I've ever asked) think we really need to have an invisible or away feature/option for Grommr XL members that would allow us to be signed in for private chat or browsing while appearing offline.
+1, Im colour blind and those dots mean literally nothing to me, they look exactly the same.
would be really convenient if you could hide your online status... some people are a bit too "pouncy" when i sign in either on the PC or mobile app and it can get annoying... would just like to browse sometimes without that happening
how about a different colour indicator for people who are online via mobile, as it currently looks like people are online all the time when they might not be
Have an option to change status to show away, online, or offline. Like the xbox's preferences
give us the option of choosing whether we appear as online, offline or away
Setting the online status as ON or OFF to some followers.
Sometimes you just don't want to talk to someone, and not because you don't like him, maybe because you just logged on for a minute, or you just want to talk to someone in particular. It'd be nice to have the possibility to appear as disconnected for some people when you want, so you wouldn't have to ignore them if they talk you, and let's face it, nobody is very happy when someone says "I don't want to talk with you right now". I know you can block people if you want, but that's too drastic sometimes.
Maybe chose two more varied colors for online and offline status. The Brown and the Green look very similar to my eye. Maybe Red and Green, or 2 more polar opposite colors?
How many times you would be logged to chat with some one without being disturbed by other people? If you'll upload that opportunity, people could quietly chat or just being logged, without being visible by other contacts.
